The fair will take place at the Pinada (pinewood) of Santa Ponça from 1st to 11th October
The Oktoberfest fair opens its doors tomorrow at the Santa Ponça pinewood. It is a celebration native to the German city of Munich which has a great acceptance amongst the residents and the visitors of all nationalities.
The Councillor in charge of Santa Ponça, Nati Francés, highlighted at the fair's presentation that “after been finished the Rei en Jaume Festivities a few days ago, Calvià does not stop and continues promoting the area”. This and other events- she added- makes of Calvià an attractive spot. In the same line, the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Commerce and Urban Planning, Antonio García Moles, pointed out that “the government team is working to maintain the economic activity during the mid and low season, and our determination is to break with the seasonality's dynamics”.
The Oktoberfest is framed within the group of complementary activities programmed by the Fundación Calvià. According to the information given by the organisers, the company Grup Trui Mallorca, the activity counts with the ISO 9001 and the 14001 certifications, and an environmental and a quality study has been carried out for the development of the fair.
With regards to the gastronomy, they informed that besides the traditional beer, it can be tasted the original German food, such as knuckle, sausages, 'frikadellen', meat pie, everything accompanied by the most traditional and essential “chucrut” (sauerkraut), as well as the typical German salads and mashed potatoe. The Bretzel, a salty round breadstick typical gastronomy of the Bavarian region, is served as an appetiser.
