20 WOMEN OF CALVIÀ WILL BE BENEFICIARIES OF THE MICROCREDITS PROGRAMME FOR THE SELF-EMPLOYMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION TREBALL SOLIDARI, WHICH IS LAUNCHED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE MUNICIPALITY
The Calvià Town Hall provides 33,950 euros through the first agreement that Treball Solidari signs with a municipality of the island (excluding Palma)
Both, the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Director of the Association Treball Solidari, Antoni Sierra, have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow that 20 women of the municipality of Calvià in situation of social and /or financial exclusion, may access the microcredits programme for the self-employment which is carried out by the social entity.
The Town Hall provides 33,950 euros for the implementation of this programme in Calvià. It is the first time that the consistory signs this agreement, and it is the first Town Hall of the island (excluding Palma) signing this collaboration agreement with Treball Social.
The programme aims to give impetus to women who have started small business initiatives, -or intend to do so- and need technical support, accompaniment and funding to carry out the self-employment activity. These 20 women will receive small credits that they will return monthly.
To do this, 2 groups of women will be formed in Calvià, which identification and selection process is carried out by the Town Hall's Department of Social Welfare, and the Institut de Formació i Ocupació de Calvià (IFOC) (Employment and Training Institute of Calvià) which, also, will be part of the Programme's Monitoring Commission. The groups are an important element in the process as the commitment of the women is acquired within this context, through meetings that unite the group, and in which use dynamics aimed at promoting, amongst women, the mutual knowledge, confidence, communication, cooperation, evaluation and resolution of difficulties.
The Director of Treball Solidari, Antoni Sierra, pointed out that the Calvià Town Hall has been the first consistory (excluding Palma) to see the convenience of this programme, which converts a dream into a real project. Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has reaffirmed the commitment of the government team to give a boost to this programme in the municipality, while expressed his satisfaction for Calvià becoming the first municipality- after Palma- to agree this collaboration with Treball Solidari.
Treball Solidari was founded in 2000 as an entity dedicated to the international cooperation, working in Central America and African countries, through more than 90 projects and supporting around 10,000 people.
Since 2011 it carries out self-employment programmes in the Balearic Islands, where in Palma it has activated 5 groups, providing support to 60 women, with more than 250 microcredits granted with 320,000 euros.
The signing event was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the Councillor for Social Welfare and Senior Citizens, Mayte Albertí; the manager of the IFOC, Darío Espallargas, and the Director General of Social Development and Equality, Ana Pérez.
