The Calvià Town Hall has signed a collaboration agreement with the company Leroy Merlin to develop the environmental education programme "Hogares Verdes de Calvià". The project is basically implemented to raise awareness and promote responsible consumption of water and energy in the municipality. On behalf of the Town Hall, the agreement was signed by the Mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; and on behalf of Leroy Merlin, the document has been signed by the store manager of Palma de Mallorca, Javier Rosselló Prieto.

Hogares Verdes de Calvià is an educational programme addressed to families concerned about the environmental impact of their daily habits. What is pursued with this initiative is to accompany them in the process of change towards a more responsible household management promoting the self-control of the domestic consumption of water and energy, introducing savings measures and behaviours, and helping to make more ecological purchases.

It is not the first time this action is carried out, because in March 2014 the project was initiated with the participants registered in Leroy Merlin that participated in the first edition of the programme Hogares Verdes de Calvià. This new edition will also count on the collaboration of the Town Hall's Department of Social Welfare. The will is to introduce the participation of families with energy poverty in the programme Hogares Verdes (Green Homes), thereby implementing a social added value to said programme.

The addressee of the Green Homes project are the participants of the previous edition who want to continue with the programme, new participants residents in the municipality and participants with energy poverty in the municipality of Calvià. Soon, the training workshops that will be taught and the programme's calendar will be designed. Once selected the participants, the activities will take place and the follow up with the subsequent evaluation of results will be activated. In this second edition, the will is to deepen awareness-raising and training into good practices. The targets set for the participants are to reduce the domestic CO2 emissions by 10% within two years and decrease between a 6 and a 10% the domestic water consumption.

The Town Hall's Department of Natural and Urban Environment directs and coordinates projects and strategies for reducing CO2 emissions as well as the environmental care. To this end, it conducts various environmental education and awareness campaigns, amongst which is the energy efficiency programme Hogares Verdes de Calvià.
