The Mayors of both municipalities have signed the document that strengthens the relationship and bonds between the two villages


On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza festivities, organised by the residents of Calvià born in Nerpio, the villages of Calvià and Nerpio have twinned as a sign of unity and support for the Calvian coming from the village of Albacete.

 

The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Mayor of Nerpio, José Antonio Gómez Moreno, aware of the friendship and solidarity ties between both villages, and convinced that mutual cooperation will benefit each other, they have decided to deepen the territorial union formalising this twinning.

 

The Mayor of Calvià welcomed the attendees to the twinning event that took place in the plenary hall of the Town Hall, in which a large delegation of the municipality of Albacete was amongst them, as well as several Nerpians residing in Calvià. The host Mayor began his speech by explaining how the celebration of every year's festivities in the month of May has already become in one more tradition of the municipality of ponent (West), and recalled that Calvià is an open place, and has been a hosting area of people from very different places.

 

The Mayor of Calvià indicated that more than one hundred people born in Nerpio are currently living in Calvià, so this act of twinning is a nice opportunity to strengthen cultural and social ties between both villages. He ended his speech by encouraging the Nerpian to continue maintaining their emotional bond with the land of their birth.

 

The Mayor of Nerpio, on behalf of his municipal corporation, thanked the government team of Calvià the materialisation of this twinning through which both villages can strengthen ties. He also thanked Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza Brotherhood for the effort and enthusiasm with which they organise the festivities, and recalled how Calvià has given the opportunity to work as many Nerpian contributing to that they could live in dignity thanks to their job. He finished his intervention by stating that this twinning is more than agreed in time for the joint history and the ties that bind both villages.


After signing the document, the Mayor of Calvià presented the representative of Nerpio with some volumes on the historical and natural heritage of Calvià and a lithograph depicting the sea and mountain duality of the Majorcan municipality. The Mayor of Nerpio in turn presented the municipality of Calvià with a plaque that recalls the twinning and this new link between both villages.

 

The event was attended by the first Deputy Mayor, Andreu Serra; the third Deputy Mayor, Nati Francés; the fifth Deputy Mayor, Eva Serra; the seventh Deputy Mayor, Israel Molina; the Councillor Francisca Muñoz, the Councillor Mayte Albertí and the Councillor Fernando Alcaraz; as well as the Councillors of the Partido Popular Juan Feliu and Antonio Alarcón.
