Participants in the pilot project 'Donar veu a les persones majors' have presented the conclusions of their debates before the Town Hall and the IMAS
The group of people who have participated in the project 'Donar veu a les persones majors' have presented this morning at the Plenary room of Calvià Town Hall, the conclusions following the sessions in which 20 elderly of Son Ferrer have participated.
The participants explained the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the President of the Observatori de les Persones Majors de Mallorca (OMM) and vice president of the IMAS, Javier de Juan, the problems found in their daily lives and the possible solutions, which have been debating and analysing in the meetings held during the month of April.
8 issues were put on the table for the debate:

2. Transportation
3. Housing
4. Outdoor spaces and Buildings
5. Social participation
6. Work and Citizen participation
7. Communication and Information
8. Social services and Health services
Today, they have presented some proposals and suggestions such as: awareness campaigns to educate on civility (motorbike noise, dog excrement, etc.); intergenerational activities; detect and combat loneliness and isolation of the elderly; awareness against abuse towards the elderly; install information panels at strategic points (health centre, chemist, shops, etc.); improve connections and frequencies of public transport; more police presence in the neighbourhood; expand the home help service; create a day centre with transport; more medical specialists; transport to Son Espases and informative talks on provision of social services, amongst many other proposals that both Consell de Mallorca and the Town Hall have gathered.
The Mayor has thanked the sincerity of the people who have participated in the project noting that "is the easiest way to after be right in the actions". He has committed to answer each of the requests, advancing that they are already working on some of them such as improving the public transport, modifying the police structure to be closer to citizens, or the location of a Day Centre with transport, amongst others.
On his behalf, the president of the OMM has highlighted the "great reception" of this project that has been started-up in 10 municipalities of the island, and has committed to pass the requests made over to the competent authorities for, between all, work in a coordinated way in the improvement of services for the elderly.
Also, the Councillor of Senior Citizens of Calvià, Mayte Albertí; the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Fernando Alcaraz; the Director General of Social Development and Equality, Ana Pérez; the Insular Director of Dependency, Regina Moll; the Head of the CIM's Dependency Department, Mª Ángeles Fernández; the Coordinator of the OMM's working group, Mª Isabel Cuart; and the Technical of Social Welfare of the Town Hall, Cristina Gamundi attended the reading of conclusions.
Donar veu a les persones majors is a project result of the participation of the Town Hall in the Observatori de Persones Majors de Mallorca. The purpose of this project is to establish an information system to understand and analyze the reality and psychosocial and economic needs of the elderly, to refocus and make proposals for improvement in the various administrations and entities that provide care and support to this collective of people.
