Alfonso Rodriguez Badal announces a series of measures to deal with the excesses that want to damage the name of Magaluf

At the gates of a new high season, which is expected to be a very important in terms of occupation, the Mayor of Calvià Alfonso Rodriguez Badal has said that "we will put all the possible sticks in the wheels of those who believe they can make a profit smearing the name of Magaluf".

This is what he has assured at the press conference that he has given together with the president of the Hotel Association of Palmanova-Magaluf, Sebastià Darder. The Mayor highlighted the turnaround that began in order to go leaving behind a tourism of excesses, with public-private collaboration.

Specific actions that have been announced:

-Make public a Town Hall Announcement in which citizens are reminded on the local governing bylaws: what is allowed and what is not to have a safe summer and peaceful cohabitation.

-Implementation an inspection plan which will include specific campaigns to ensure that each economic activity carries out the activity it is licensed for.

-The Bylaw for the Promotion of Peaceful Cohabitation has been initially approved. It updates the Municipal Bylaw for the police and good governance of Calvià, and gives the police more legal tools to enforce ordinances.

-Effort in Local Police presence on the streets (the number of policemen has risen, 20 , and the presence will increase depending on the needs). At this point, more presence of the Guardia Civil has been claimed.

-Meeting for the first time, with Health and Employment Regional Government Coucillors to work in a coordinated way against some activities that have been detected and that spread on social networks.

-Fundación Calvià (integrated by the Town Hall and the hotel associations) will publish a brochure for tourists to inform them on the bylaws and the fines (in Spanish, English, German and Swedish) and recommendations for a safe holiday.

He has also pointed out that there is a continuing progress towards modernizing Magaluf in quality terms, working together with private businesses. Together with the actions and investments that the public sector and hoteliers are carrying out, he announced that in this Thurday's Plenary a municipal bylaw on rehabilitation of homes and businesses will be approved. He explained that the objective is to help shops, bars, restaurants and small businesses so that they can also go ahead with their own renovation plan. It will have finantial support from the Town Council of 300,000 euros, that will be regulated through a subsequent fiscal bylaw.
