CALVIÀ TOWN HALL PROMOTES A GLOBAL PROJECT FOR THE REUSE OF TEXTBOOKS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES WITH THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE EDUCATIONAL CENTRES

The Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries of Calvià (IMEB), along with the educational centres and the AMIPAS (Parents Associations), is carrying out a media campaign to raise awareness of the importance of reusing textbooks.

Last year, at the end of the school term, the IMEB drafted a project for the reuse of textbooks and for the creation of textbook collections in schools and institutes, result of contributions made by the educational centres, some of which already had made their own projects- through the management teams, environmental commissions and parents associations.

The programme involves the creation of a collection of textbooks and teaching supplies owned by the centre which will receive economic contributions from families and the Calvià Town Hall. There can also be contributions from other public or private institutions with the aim to acquire those school supplies so the student body can reuse them.

To this end, the Town Hall has budgeted a total of 60.000 euros, and will give a grant to each Primary and Secondary Education Centre in order to create the school supply collection, depending on the number of students per center, and prioritising in Primary Education the purchase of 5th and 6th year books, and in Secondary Education the purchase of 1st and 2nd year books, to start creating the collection.

For the information campaign, it has been designed the character of a kangaroo that will also appear in the book points that will be distributed at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school term, in order to disseminate the rules for the proper use of the material and the reuse process. The character will also be the protagonist of a comic to educate the Primary Education student body. (See poster)

From Calvià Town Hall it is expected that the 2016-2017 school term is the starting point of a long-term global project, to promote amongst the entire educational community values such as the respect for the environment, the solidarity, the recycling, the importance of the good use of things and the economic savings.
