Ceremony against gender violence.

Calvià, 6th of September de 2016

The staff working in Calvià Town Hall has gathered at the doorstep of the consistorial building at 12 p.m. to once again condemn the gender violence.

A few words have been read lamenting that since the entry into force of the Law on Comprehensive Protection Measures against Gender Violence of 2004, deaths have not reduced significantly, but in the last decade remain at a standstill around 70 per year, and that the 84.3% of women murdered in the last ten years had not submitted prior complaint. Therefore, it has been claimed that there is a great margin for improvement in matters of prevention that should be activated from the same community.

It has also been reminded that a campaign has been launched this Summer to prevent sexual assaults and to enjoy the festivities free of sexism. Two banners have been hung at the entrance of Santa Ponça, since Calvià Town Hall has joined the campaign launched by Palma City Council and promoted by the Consell de Mallorca.

The ceremony ended with both, a symbolic placement of the latest victims' names in the heart that is hanging at the entrance of the Town Hall and the reading of one of the first contributions to the book located at the entrance of the building available to anyone who wants to write a text or thought.
