THE CALVIÀ TOWN HALL WILL PROPOSE TO THE PLENARY THE ACCESSION TO THE PLATFORM ALIANÇA MAR BLAVA

The Plenary unanimously declared Calvià as a municipality opposed to oil explorations in the Balearic Islands

The Calvià Town Hall will propose in the next municipal Plenary session its adhesion to Aliança Mar Blava, the intersectoral platform which aims to definitively stop oil exploration projects, currently in progress; achieve the declaration by law of the Spanish Mediterranean as free zone of oil explorations, and preserve the environmental wealth, as well as the employment, the citizen welfare and the rights of future generations to have a healthy environment.

All municipal groups already showed their commitment in the Plenary session of the last month of February supporting unanimously a joint motion (PSOE, Si Se Puede Calvià, Esquerra Oberta and Carlos Tarancón of the Joint Group) in which Calvià was declared as a municipality opposed to oil explorations in the Balearic Islands, and another in which they supported the presentation of claims regarding the environmental impact statement of the project promoted by the company Spectrum Geo Limited in the Balearic Islands.

What it is now proposed is to go a step further and, reaffirming this commitment, join one of the most active agents in the fight against these projects, Aliança Mar Blava, constituted by public administrations (Regional Government, the four Insular Councils and various municipalities of the islands), organisations and entities of economic sectors potentially affected by such projects such as tourism, fisheries, agriculture or navigation, social organisations and environmentalists, unions and public and private institutions. It currently counts with a hundred members and the support of several organisations internationally.

The adhesion of Calvià Town Hall to Aliança Mar Blava pursues to preserve the extensive environmental wealth present in our seas, and safeguard the right of future generations to enjoy said environment in a good condition.
