CALVIÀ TOWN HALL PROMOTES A CANINE BEHAVIOUR COURSE
The Calvià Town Hall, through the Urban and Natural Environment Service, together with the collaborating entities SOS animal and Baldea, promotes a professionalisation course addressed to the staff of the municipal animal shelter and the carers and volunteers of the animal protection entities, in order to improve the implementation and development of actions for the protection of animals that live in the human environment of the municipality.
A theoretical and practical course of four hours on the "Canine behaviour: guidelines for understanding their behaviour and for a proper management" will be held on Friday at the premises of the Local Police of Calvià.
It will be taught by Carmen Ezquerra of the Escola Canina i Felina Animalots, an educator with great experience and expert in canine behaviour who has participated in several courses and talks for families and security forces. A total of 15 people of the Municipal Animal Shelter Centre, Civil Protection of Calvià Town Hall and volunteers and caregivers of the SOS Animal entity and Baldea will take part.
The course will introduce participants to the knowledge of the basis of the canine behaviour and to know how to interpret the language of these animals, giving the tools and techniques to act on various stress conditions of the animals. In this way, the staff dedicated to the world of dogs, will learn the best way to act in different situations they may encounter.
Various aspects will be introduced such as:
Barks and signs of calm in dogs. How to identify them.
Explanation of the possible aggressiveness of dogs. Detecting signs of aggression.
Prevention and handling of a dog showing some aggressiveness. Tools to reduce or minimise an aggressive response. How to deal with a stress and/or an aggressive behaviour of a dog.
Practical tips to avoid dogfighting and to act if it occurs. What to do, what not to do, intervention with a partner, self-protection in case of attack, etc ...
Train attendees in relation to the strategies and treatments that compromise the animal welfare regarding the aggressive behaviours modification.
