THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ ATTENDS THE CEMETERY OF PORRERES WHERE THE EXHUMATION WORKS OF THE COMMON GRAVE ARE BEING CARRIED OUT
The Town Hall will accompany the families of the Calvian whose remains are found in the grave of Porreres
The Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, visited this morning the Porreres cemetery where the exhumation works of the common grave are being carried out, in a day in which the forensic anthropologist Francisco Etxeberría, who heads the team in charge of the exhumation, explained the process of exhumation that is taking place in the cemetery of Porreres where there is evidence that there may be bodies of Calvian people killed by the Franco regime.
The Calvià Town Hall, through the Department of Culture, will accompany the families of these deceased people, taking care of the DNA tests of these relatives to verify the coincidences with the remains found, while collaborating with the transfer of the remains confirmed to the muncipality of Calvià.
The Calvià Town Hall has planned in 2017-2018 to exhume the common grave of the Calvian cemetery. The twenty volunteers who are training with the team of archaeologists and forensic doctors led by Dr. Etxeberría, will be the ones in charge of the exhumations carried out in the rest of municipalities of the island, also in Calvià, along with historians and specialists who, like Manel Suárez, have documented studies. The recovery of the historical memory is one of the commitments stated in the investiture's agreement.
The event of Porreres was attended by the President of the Regional Government, Francina Armengol; the President of the Consell de Mallorca, Miquel Ensenyat; and authorities of all the institutions of the island, as well as members of the Memòria Històrica de Mallorca, and Mayors and Councillors of different municipalities of the island.
