The municipality of Calvià, through the company Calvià 2000, and thanks to the involvement of businesses and hotels, has collected 11% more glass this summer than the previous year. Specifically, 925 tons of glass have been collected in July and August, compared to the 835 collected in the same months of 2015.
This increase in the selective collection has meant to Calvià the receipt of an award from Ecovidrio, entity that promotes, at a national level, the Summer Plan, with the aim of increasing the recycling of glass during the summer season.
More than 318 bars and restaurants in Palma de Mallorca and Calvià have participated in said plan this year, to which 272 containers were delivered, and more than 2.450 tonnes of glass containers have been recycled in July and August.
Andreu Serra, President of the Board of Directors of Calvià 2000, has collected the award from the hands of Roberto Fuentes, Area Manager of Ecovidrio, with the presence of Sebastià Sansó, General Director of Environmental Quality of the Government of the Balearic Islands, and Sandra Espeja, Councillor for Environment of the Consell de Mallorca, in which headquarters the presentation of the Plan's results and the delivery of recognitions has taken place.
