Calvià 2000's budget reaches 28.67 million euros

High increase in investments (almost 18%) due to the refurbishment works in water treatment plants and the improvement in the purified water treatment

The effort to contain spending keeps the accounts stable despite the increase of 5% of the waste generated in the municipality

Workers recover their lost rights (seniority) and increase the hours worked

The budget of the municipal company Calvià 2000 S.A. for the year 2017 reaches 28.67 million euros, 524.000 euros more than in 2016, which is a 2% increase compared to the budgeted for the current year.

If we take into account that the waste collected up to November 2016 has increased in the municipality by 5%, a percentage similar to the growth of the activity in the water sanitation area, we see how the stability in the public accounts scheduled for 2017 is fruit of an important effort to restrain spending on purchases.

It is to be recalled that the greater tourist and commercial activity has led to the production of a greater volume of waste (glass 10%, cardboard 6%, containers 7%, organic matter 12% and waste 3%), waste that later Tirme takes to its incineration, or to Mac Insular if they are bulky or debris, generating a greater cost for Calvià 2000.

The chapter that registers a greater increase is the one of investments, due to the plans of improvement in the water treatment plants of Peguera and Bendinat, the construction of a tertiary treatment in the water treatment plant of Santa Ponça, that will allow the use of the regenerated water for example for the irrigation of public gardens; and the extension and improvement of the regenerated water distribution networks. The latter project is expected to be financed with the funds raised by the sustainable tourist tax.

In addition to these actions, the replacement of difficult stretches in sanitation networks, the replacement of impeller pipelines for the pumping of wastewater in Santa Ponça and other improvements in the comprehensive water cycle area of the municipality will also take place.

Another relevant action from an investment point of view is the plan to replace light vehicles with electric vehicles, for which it is expected the acquisition of 5 vans and 5 electric cars. Likewise, the fleet renewal plan aimed at cleaning tasks will continue, in which two crane-trucks for the collection of pruning and glass, four 1-cubic-metre sweepers for mixed sweep cleaning, five 3.500 kg-trucks for road cleaning and cleaning of beaches, and four cars will be replaced. In this area, we must also mention the annual renewal of containers and the acquisition of electric blowers (which have both environmental and acoustic benefits), amongst other actions.

On the other hand, there has been a 5.9% increase in personnel expenses, since Calvià 2000 will pay the seniority of the workers in compliance with an agreement of the works council following a judicial decision, which means the recovery of labour rights in the company. In this chapter, it is computed a greater number of hours worked, as a response to the increase in the activity expected in both the cleaning area and the comprehensive water cycle area.
