Comando Natura visits Calvià
- The Consell de Mallorca and Ecoembes have launched a new campaign to resolve the doubts of the citizens about the separation of waste.
-Calvià 2000 has withdrawn between January and November 12,604 tons of selective collection.
"Separar para Reciclar" is the new awareness campaign of the Consell de Mallorca and Ecoembes in Mallorca, and which, in Calvià, counts on the collaboration of the municipal company Calvià 2000. This initiative was born with the aim of sensitising citizens of the importance of separating waste well at home so that it can be recycled efficiently.
Within this campaign, the "Comando Natura" has been created with the aim of obtaining a more direct contact with the citizens and to solve their possible doubts. The "Comando Natura" is formed by people specialised in environmental education, who will visit 12 municipalities in Mallorca to advise the neighbours.
The "Comando Natura" will visit Calvià from 23rd to 28th January. Environmental education experts will be placed near the selective collection containers located in the following locations:
• 23/01/2017: From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., on Avenida Rei Jaume I, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in C / Riu Sil, Santa Ponça.
• 24/01/2017: From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in C / Córdoba, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in C / Zaragoza, Son Caliu.
• 25/01/2017: From 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. on the Av. Son Pillo, Galatzó, and from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Avda. de l'Olivera, Magaluf.
• 26/01/2017: From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in C / Mussol, Son Ferrer.
• 27/01/2017: From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in C / Gran Via, El Toro.
• 28/01/2017: From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in C / Llorer, Peguera.

12,604 tonnes of selective collection in Calvià, from January to November 2016.
Selective collection continues to grow in the municipality of Calvià. Overall, it increased by 11% between January and November 2016, regarding the waste collected in the same period of the previous year, reaching 12,604 tonnes.
The organic in hotels has been the fraction that has grown the most, in particular 14%, reaching 2,433.8 tons, together with the junk and other material left in the Deixalleria, which have grown by 23%, reaching 2,474.4 tons.
For its part, glass has increased by 10% (3,029.5 tons); contianers, 8% (1,062 tons); cardboard, 7% (with a total of 2,562.6 tons), and branches, 2% (1,042 tons).
The collaboration of the neighbours and the companies of the municipality has been crucial in obtaining these results, which have allowed that the 23.2% of the kilos of waste of the municipality already corresponds to selective collection. Even so, from the departments of Environment of the Consell de Mallorca and the Calvià Town Hall remind that it is not enough and that we have to work to comply with the European regulations that mark that, in 2020, the selective collection must be 70% .
