In 2016, more than 1,000 kilos of waste were collected on Calvià's coastline

MORE THAN ONE TONNE OF WASTE WAS COLLECTED LAST YEAR ON CALVIÀ'S COASTLINE
The year 2016 was one of the periods in which more coastal cleaning actions were carried out and when more kilos of waste were collected.
It is one of the conclusions that today have been revealed at the meeting that the Department of Natural and Urban Environment of Calvià Town Hall has held with the entities that participate in this type of activities, and which has been attended by both the Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Commerce and Urban Planning, Antonio García Moles, and the Councillor of Commerce, Activities and Natural and Urban Environment, Francisca Muñoz.
Specifically, 1,010 kilos of waste were collected in the 5 cleaning actions carried out in 2016, which is 58% more than in 2015, when 640 kilos were collected in the 3 actions carried out.
Beach and seabed cleaning tasks were carried out last year in the Illes del Toro Marine Reserve, Sa Geneta-Albatro, Illetes, Cala Figuera, Cala Fornells and Palmira, in which there were more than 150 participants, compared to the 80 of the previous year.
In 2016, the entities that collaborated in these activities were: Association Ondine, Zoea, Palomondrius, Apnea Mallorca, Sibispector, GADMA, Amics dels Torrents, Abaqua, Diving Palma and Port esportiu Portals Vells.
Calvià Town Hall has carried out, since the year 2007, seabed cleaning and waste collection actions on the coastlines of the municipality. During this period a total of 13,615 kilos of waste have been collected.
In 2016, in addition to this activity, the Town Hall, together with Cruz Roja, Apnea and Port Adriano, with the participation of Aspro Ocio and the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, carried out a new project for the awareness of the preservation of the Oceanic Posidonia informing about the main threats and impact caused by the anchorages of the boats.
Both projects have always had the participation of Civil Protection Calvià.
