It represents 23% of total waste, one point more than in 2015
The year 2016 has been closed in Calvià 2000 with a 9% increase in selective collection, branches, junk and objects left in Deixalleria. Specifically, 13,246 tonnes of this waste have been collected, so selective collection already represents 23% of the total waste managed by Calvià 2000 in the municipality.
The 2016 report of the Environmental Maintenance area of Calvià 2000 offers detailed information by sections. The organic in hotels is the one that has grown the most, with 2,437 tons collected, which means an increase of 13% over 2015. This trend continues with the increase of glass, with an increase of 9% and 3,091 tons collected; cartonboard, with an 8% growth and 2,673 tons; containers (7%, 1,102 tonnes) and branches (2%, 1,169 tonnes).
Of the glass collected, 33% corresponds to hotels and 22% to the complementary offer, while the rest is glass collected on the public way. These percentages are very similar to the distribution of cartonboard, of which 31% is collected in hotels and 20% in the complementary offer.
For their part, the waste collected and other objects left in the Deixalleria have reached 2,696 tons, an increase of 7%. This centre, located at the Polígon Son Bugadelles (Son Bugadelles Industrial Estate), has recorded an average of 19 entries per day, with a yearly total of 6,842 entries.
These materials include bulks and debris, which should be taken to MAC Insular for its management, and which in 2016 represented 2,500 tonnes (30% more bulky and 9% less debris than in 2015).
The evolution of the selective collection in Calvià is, according to the delegate of Commerce, Activities and Environment, Paquita Muñoz, "satisfactory, thanks to the active involvement of citizens and companies, and must continue to grow."
In spite of the good evolution in selective collection, waste has also experienced an increase (3%), with a total of 47,633 tons counted, both in container collection, road cleaning and beaches. This important part of residues is managed by TIRME.
