FIRST CLEANING DAY OF THIS YEAR FRAMED WITHIN THE EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN 'LET'S CLEAN UP EUROPE 2017' IN THE AREA OF SA MARINA DE MAGALUF
-The aim of the initiative is to clean this area of special biological interest while raising public awareness of environmental protection issues and the problems caused by waste
The Calvià Town Hall, the Regional Ministry for Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries and Cruz Roja have jointly organised two cleaning days in the Critical Biological Area (ABC) of Magaluf for today Friday and Saturday morning.
The objectives of these sessions are to clean up waste in the Critical Biological Area of Magaluf, give visibility to the problem of waste (especially in the pre-littoral zone), and also give visibility to the Critical Biological Area of Magaluf, the endemic species present and the conservation efforts.
This action, which is the first carried out within the European campaign 'Let's Clean Up Europe 2017', has consisted of a land-based clean-up on foot where solid waste was collected from the ground and between vegetation. The cleaning is done with the collaboration of Cruz Roja volunteers and staff of the Environment Department, all specialised and knowledgeable about the cleaning task in this type of areas with endemic and protected species. In this first day, 1,820 kilos of waste have been collected.
In today's cleaning day, there were 15 participants between Cruz Roja volunteers, and workers and technicians of the Environment Department. The Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Commerce and Urban Planning, Antonio García Moles; the Councillor for Commerce and Environment, Francisca Muñoz; the Majorca Council's General Director for Environmental Education, Environmental Quality and Waste, Sebastià Sansó; and Calvià Town Hall's Councillor of Esquerra Oberta, Rafel Sedano; have also attended the event.
