THE TOWN HALL SIGNS TWO AGREEMENTS TO FIGHT AGAINST CHILD AND BULLYING ABUSE AT BOTH SCHOOL AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL
The agreements have been signed with Fundación Rana and Fundación Indig, two non-profit associations working to defend the rights of minors and improve their living conditions
The Calvià Town Hall has signed two collaboration agreements with the Fundación Rana and Fundación Indig non-profit organisations to fight against child and bullying abuse. The agreements, totaling 5,650 euros, have been signed by the Mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the President of the RANA Foundation, Beatriz Benavente on the one part; and on the other by the Mayor and the President of the Indig Foundation, Carmen Artero.
The agreement with Fundación Rana is signed for the second consecutive year and aims at the implementation and development of the programme "Crida ben fort" in the municipality of Calvià in order to implement the methodology of the programme based on the story ¡Grita bien fuerte, Estela! This story-based programme is a tool that provides children with the skills to detect and act on risk situations. This storytelling, which is offered to the eleven public primary education schools in the municipality, is complemented by a talk aimed at the parents of the children to whom the story is told, and with workshops for the professionals who work with childhood.
This is the first time an agreement is signed with Fundación Indig to carry out anti-bullying workshops and education workshops against abuse in the home itself and in schools. In the anti-bullying workshops, bullying will be discussed and awareness-raising images and videos will be screened.
Psychological strategies will also be developed to make the aggressors aware of the pain they cause in the classmates due to their humiliation, and victims will be encouraged and invited to raise their voices and put an end to their problems, using the tools that will be previously provided to them.
The education workshops against abuse in the home will be held in two sessions. In the first talk they will only talk about gender violence within the family, while the second they will talk about child abuse.
A documentary specialising in child abuse will also be screened.
Rana Foundation is a non-profit association of the Balearic Islands whose social function is to prevent child sexual abuse and abuse through awareness-raising and education activities. The Rana Foundation works to create a better future, where children's rights are respected and protected from any situation that may lead to mistreatment or abuse. In 2016, 40 storytellings were held in primary education schools in which 886 students participated, amongst other activities. In addition, two talks were held for families and a workshop was held for professionals in social services, nurseries and youth, which was attended by a total of 34 professionals.
Indig Foundation is an NGO non-profit organisation that fights to defend the rights of children and adolescents and to improve their conditions of dignity, respect and freedom. Amongst the activities carried out is the awareness of bullying abuse – at school and out-of-school - through talks in schools.
The signing event has been attended by the Deputy Mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the Councillor for Social Welfare and Senior Citizens, Mayte Albertí; the General Director of Social Development and Equity, Ana Pérez; Beatriz Benavente, President of RANA Foundation; and Carmen Artero, President of Indig Foundation.
