Mallorca Live Festival, Hidrobal and Calvià 2000 sign an agreement to reduce the environmental impact of the festival

Calvià 2000 buys reusable cups, which means the removal of 60,000 plastic disposable cups.

The contribution of the participants through the cups will be aimed at awareness-raising projects for the conservation of posidonia oceanica on the coast of Calvià.

The organising entity of the Mallorca Live Festival, Hidrobal and Calvià 2000 have signed a collaboration agreement with the aim of reducing waste originated in the festival and carry out environmental awareness actions related to the conservation of posidonia oceanica.

Through this agreement, the organisers of the Mallorca Live Festival are committed to minimise the distribution of non-reusable cups and to use reusable cups instead. For its part, Calvià 2000 participates in the financing of the distribution system and subsequent recovery of reusable cups, while Hidrobal assumes the costs of drinking water supply and installation of drinking water pipes for dishwashers.

With this system, the use of more than 60,000 disposable cups is avoided during the celebration of the festival. In addition, the leftover cups once finished the event will be used by Calvià Town Hall in other popular events, so the removal of plastic will be extended beyond the Mallorca Live Festival.

The procedure, followed in many other events of similar characteristics, works as follows: the event's attendees buy the glass for 1,5 euros, and when they return it they are reimbursed with1 euro. The 50 cents difference will be aimed at financing the project “Participación y Voluntariado Ambiental en Costas”, developed by Cruz Roja Illes Balears, which includes awareness activities on posidonia oceanica and mooring of vessels, as well as awareness on waste reduction. These actions will be developed this Summer on the beaches of Portals Vells, Magaluf, Palmanova, Santa Ponça and Oratori.

In addition, during the concerts there will be volunteers of Cruz Roja and the Environment Department of Calvià Town Hall, offering information to the public on the mentioned project as well as on the reduction and recycling of waste.
