Calvià 2000 has completely covered a regulating pool of the water treatment plant of Bendinat to minimise the smell
- In the Peguera water treatment plant, the water treatment and the extraction of sludge have been improved
-The comprehensive renovation of these two water treatment plants will cost 2.3 million euros and will end in 2018
The deodorisation system of the water treatment plant in Bendinat, which is in its renovation process, has already been significantly improved with the covering of the lamination regulating pool, which is where the pretreated water is stored before the biological purification process. With the construction of this cover, the discomfort to the population of surrounding areas is minimised, avoiding the emission of smelly gases.
This work is included in the project for the comprehensive renovation of several processes for the treatment of sewage treatment plants (Edar) in Bendinat and Peguera, which began in 2016 and is due to be completed in 2018. The project budget is 2,3 million euros and is financed through the sewerage fee.
The aim of these works is to improve the quality of the purified water and sludge and gases generated during the process, as well as optimise the efficiency of the facilities by implementing technologies that allow debugging at the lowest cost.
In Bendinat, in addition to improving the deodorisation system and other performances, the tertiary treatment is being improved with the provision of a new ultraviolet and microfiltration line. This will allow to duplicate the capacity of production of first quality regenerated water.
In the Edar of Peguera it has been enabled a storm tank, responsible for collecting heavy rainfall water to prevent its overflow to the stream and improve the protection of the environment. In addition, an area is being created that will optimise the biological process of water purification, improving the elimination of nitrogen and phosphorus. The sludge extraction system is also optimised.
It has to be recalled that both plants are about 20 years old. Its updating is added to other facilities' renovation works, such as the construction of a tertiary treatment in the Edar of Santa Ponça or the comprehensive renovation of the Edar of Calvià.
