Calvià 2000 performs the cleaning of Magaluf and Peguera culverts

The cleaning of culverts at Magaluf and Palmira beaches has begun this week with the aim of removing the accumulation of dead algae and other organic waste that cause odors. The works to clean these constructions for the drainage of surface water, consisting of channels of great length and very low height, are complex and must be carried out by qualified personnel with self-contained breathing apparatus and special tooling. This year, these tasks, commissioned and supervised by Calvià 2000, are carried out by the company Manosub, specialised in maintenance and underwater works.

These works are usually carried out at the end of May and the beginning of June, and usually take about 15 to 20 days in Magaluf (Carabela street access) and between 6 and 10 days in Palmira (access by Niza street in Peguera), according to the accumulation of material inside. In both areas, there is a pedestrian section and a stretch on the beach, and it becomes necessary to occupy part of the public space to carry out the cleaning.

The implementation in the period prior to the high season is to prevent that the waves of any spring storm bring back algae and materials, which require to repeat the work.
