THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ DELIVERS THE GOVERNMENT DELEGATE THE 20,000 SIGNATURES OF THE HOTEL MAIDS WITH WHICH THEY CLAIM IMPROVEMENTS IN THEIR LABOUR CONDITIONS

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the deputy mayor for Economy, Employment and Innovation, Mari Carmen Iglesias, met this morning with the Government delegate, María Salom, to present her the 20,000 signatures that the hotel maids' representatives collected in the Calvian municipality and submmitted in the Town Hall in the month of May. The meeting was also attended by the secretary general of the Delegation, Evelio Antich. Furthermore, they have also been given the motion approved in May's plenary, which supported the demands and urged the competent administrations to take measures in favour of this group.

With the collection of signatures, hotel maids demand improvements in their working conditions such as the regulation of their workload or early retirement, amongst others. The Mayor, at the time, committed to pass the 20,000 signatures, along with the demands, on to the Government Delegate, and shared the need to get the voice of this group of the Balearics in the working space on occupational health that is expected to be created in Madrid, within the scope of the Ministry of Labour, and which was discussed last week between President Armengol and Minister Báñez.

The hotel maids is a very important professional group in Calvià - municipality with the largest number of hotel rooms in the entire autonomous community - and from the Town Hall there is the commitment to accompany them in their requests, as was also noted in the motion that was unanimously approved in May's plenary session.
