A total of 230 students of Calvià participate in the first intercentre Chess Day
The Calvià Town Hall, through the IMEB (Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries) has started this school year a new complementary chess activity during school hours in the primary education schools of the municipality. During the months of May and June the activity has been developed in the schools of Puig de sa Ginesta, Jaume I, Xaloc and Bendinat.
On Friday 16th June, the first intercentre Chess Day, which will involve a total of 230 children from the participating schools, will be held at the sports area of Bendinat.
The aim of this activity is to apply chess as a learning tool, as a resource in other subjects, especially in mathematics and language (reading comprehension).
Chess develops concentration, power memory, logical reasoning, scientific thinking, self-criticism, motivation, reflection on the consequences of what we do, patience, calculation of risks, attention to two things at once, increases the problem-solving ability, develops creative thinking, teaches planning and forecasting, and so on.
The activity is aimed at students in 4th and 5th year of primary education.
