Campaign against the pine processionary.

 Wednesday 12th July 2017

The consistory makes available to the citizens material to prevent the processionary on pines of private areas

From the Town Hall, the campaign of placing trap cages for the processionary in spaces of municipal ownership has been initiated through Lokímica, the company awarded the pest control in Calvià. The placement of these traps aims to achieve, on the one hand, the reduction of the processionary population by catching male butterflies - which are attracted by the trap pheromones - and on the other hand, and through the counting of specimens of butterflies captured in the cages that are geolocalised, establish a schedule of preventive treatments to be carried out from October.

For private areas, citizens and private entities have the possibility of acquiring the traps for the processionary at the Town Hall's Natural and Urban Environment Service. The boxes can be recycled from one season to another and the consistory subsidises the fungible material: the bag and the pheromone. To be effective, traps should be placed in late June or early July and should be withdrawn in late September or early October.

From the Natural and Urban Environment Service, different performances are carried out in public areas throughout the year and it is advised on actions that the neighbours can carry out in private spaces.
