CALVIÀ TOWN HALL HOLDS THE EXHIBITION 'CALVIÀ AHIR' BY THE PHOTOJOURNALIST JOAN LLOMPART TORRELLÓ THAT INAUGURATES THE COLLECTION 'FOTOGRAFIA DE PREMSA'
The first issue of the Col·lecció Calvià, Fotografia de Premsa, which began with a compilation of images by the photojournalist Joan Llompart Torrelló that cover the territory and the history of the municipality with photos taken by Torrelló through his professional life, was presented at Calvià Town Hall, coinciding with the patron saint of the municipality, Sant Jaume. With the presentation of the book it has been inaugurated the exhibition that offers a good exhibition of the images that illustrate the publication, and that will remain at the Town Hall's exhibition room until 13th October.
At the opening and presentation ceremony, the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, highlighted the importance of some images that are a witness to the history of Calvià taken from the eyes of one of the photojournalists deans of the Balearic Islands.
At the presentation event, the Mayor dedicated an affectionate remembrance to the journalist and writer Joana Maria de Roque, closely linked to Calvià, where she founded the municipal radio and was the coordinator of Entorn magazine, and to the photojournalist of the EFE agency Montse Díez.
The Col·lecció Calvià, Fotografia de Premsa wants to give value to the importance that photojournalism has in the memory of the people, becoming a precious witness of the different moments of their political, social, cultural and event history.
The publication starts with black and white images of the photojournalist Joan Llompart Torrelló who exercised his professional task for 40 years in the Diario de Mallorca, and who preserves an important archive, a small part of which appears in the book that the author has titled 'Calvià ahir'. It is a compilation of images of an important value for the history of the municipality.
