THE SUMMER SCHOOL OF SON FERRER KEEPS THE TIGER MOSQUITO AT BAY

The children attending the Summer School of the CEIP of Son Ferrer have participated in a workshop, carried out by Lokímica, the company awarded the pest control in Calvià, with the objective of finding out and identifying the tiger mosquito and the places where this insect breeds, and the conditions in which its reproduction is easier.

Through a game they are taught what must be done to avoid breeding the tiger mosquito, thereby making them aware of the importance of their collaboration and of all citizenship in order to stop the expansion of this species in Calvià.

This didactic activity, which has been offered to all summer schools in the municipality, is part of the actions taken by the Town Hall against the proliferation of the tiger mosquito.

Last April, municipal technicians from the Natural and Urban Environment Service, through Lokímica, conducted a helicopter flight of reconnaissance and identification of potential mosquito breeding sites in the municipality, as well as the search for possible larval habitats in areas where in previous years a greater number of citizen incidents have been registered. With this type of actions is intended to control the first generations of mosquitoes preventing the closure of its biological cycle and thus preventing adult mosquitoes from laying new eggs.
