PEGUERA CELEBRATES TOURIST DAY WITH A SPECIAL STREET FOOD FESTIVAL

Calvià Town Hall highlights the commitment to quality of this tourist area and has announced investments of about 850.000 €

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez; the councillor of Peguera-Cala Fornells, Juan Cuadros; and the director general of Strategic Projects and Tourism, Joan Mesquida; together with the president of the Hotel Association of the area, Antonio Mayol, have presented this midday at the Hotel Villamil the celebrations to be held on the occasion of Tourist Day in Peguera.

Mayor Rodríguez has taken the opportunity to highlight the quality of the hotel infrastructure in the area and has informed the actions that will be carried out in the urban environment. On the one hand, an investment of € 409,000 will be made to improve Taronger, Pins and Torà streets; and on the other hand, the Promenade at the level of the Palmira beach is going to be renewed, with a guidance budget of 350,000 €. Also, in order to offer a better look at the waters, a new wave system will be installed, which will be added to the three existing ones and which has a cost of around € 90,000.

In the same vein, Rodríguez recalled that the cleaning operation has been increased to provide service during the peak season in Peguera, which this year is longer than usual, and also the organic and selective waste collection has been increased.

Calvià Town Hall also collaborates in the dynamisation of the tourist area of Peguera during the medium and low season. Significant examples are the Peguera Challenge, or walking and tennis activities. These initiatives favour the hotel occupancy and the extension of contracts to service employees.

Peguera's Tourist Day

However, the main day of celebration will be tomorrow, Thursday 21
st September, to mark the 20th anniversary of Peguera's Tourist Day. According to the president of the Hotel Association of the area, Antonio Mayol, on the third Thursday of September there is a celebration to reward the loyalty of tourists who visit Peguera, which currently has a hotel occupancy that is around 96%. At 8 p.m., the party will begin with a parade show at the Boulevard, this year with a strong local character, as it will be enlivened with giants, ball de bot and xeremies (Majorcan traditional dancing and music). To this will be joined the sound of the batucada (drums), sanfermines with inflatable bulls and the famous correfoc (it is recommended to the parade attendants to wear cotton clothes with sleeves, long trousers, cap and cover the neck with a cotton handkerchief). From 9 p.m. on, three stages will offer almost simultaneous concerts: 4 Fun Let's make a party, Souldrives, and Marino e Marini. The end of Tourist Day is scheduled at 23:30, with a pyrotechnic show at the beach dock.
