Calvià at the Democratic Cities Conference.

CALVIÀ ATTENDS THE DEMOCRATIC CITIES EVENT IN MADRID THAT WILL BRING TOGETHER REPRESENTATIVES FROM 60 CITIES TO PROGRESS IN CITIZEN PARTICIPATION


These are conferences and workshops on participation technologies that will count on representatives of institutions, groups and companies in cities and regions, such as Turin, Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Porto Alegre, Valencia or Gran Canaria.


Calvià Town Hall, through the Deputy Mayor for Citizen Participation and Youth, Fernando Alcaraz, will participate in the Democratic Cities event that will bring together representatives from 60 cities from 16th to 18th November in Madrid to progress together on Citizen Participation through a series of conferences, workshops and round tables on participation technologies in order to achieve greater involvement of citizens in the decision-making and management of local governments.

There will be three days of collaborative work, exchange of experiences and good practices, in which Fernando Alcaraz will participate as a speaker at the table Future of Consul, presenting the experience of Calvià with the participative platform, through which the Town Hall has carried out two processes of participatory budgeting, has received citizen proposals and has put to public exposure the modification of municipal ordinances and regulations. The objective of the table is for companies and administrations to debate on the needs and priorities in the future development of Consul, which will improve the implementation of the Participa Calvià platform. The III participatory budgeting of the municipality will also be presented, in which Calvià Town Hall commits to allocate the amount of up to 2,000,000 euros with regards to the process participation.

Cities and regions of other countries such as Buenos Aires, Paris, Turin, Montevideo, Lima, Porto Alegre or Rio de Janeiro will participate, amongst others. Also governments of regions such as La Libertad (Peru), Jalisco (Mexico) or Nariño (Colombia). Participants from Spain will be A Coruña, Barcelona, Cádiz, Oviedo, Palma, Tarragona and Valencia, amongst others.

The event is focused on being a collaborative work space with technical conferences and round tables that will focus on participatory technologies, digital tools and territorial participatory processes, which are transforming cities and municipalities, facilitating the participation of citizens in issues such as participatory budgeting, the configuration of urban spaces, or the definition of priorities in the management of the municipality.


At the Democratic Cities Conference you can listen to speakers such as Birgitta Jónsdóttir (International Modern Media Institute, Iceland), who will talk about new opportunities for a democracy in crisis; Shu-Yang Lin (architect and co-founder of PDIS, Taiwan), who will delve into the participation technologies; Richard Barbrook (University of Westminster, United Kingdom), who will participate in the round table 'Radical democracy for the new millennium' or Julia Kloiber (Open Knowledge Foundation, Germany), who will discuss on how to 'hack democracy'.


The mayoresses of Madrid and Barcelona, Manuela Carmena and Ada Colau, will be in charge of opening the conference to be held on Saturday at the Teatro Español.
