THE ELDERLY PEOPLE OF SANTA PONÇA MAKE THEMSELVES HEARD
The participants in the project 'Donar veu a les persones majors' (Giving voice to the elderly) have presented the conclusions of their debates in the Town Hall
A group of people who have participated in the project ''Donar veu a les persones majors'' have presented this morning, in the Plenary Hall of Calvià Town Hall, the conclusions after the sessions in which have participated 15 elderly people from the area of Santa Ponça (7), Nova Santa Ponça (6), Costa de la Calma (1) and the Galatzó residential area (1), with an average age of 68 years, representing 21 percent of the population of Calvià, approximately.
The participants presented to the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, the vice president of the IMAS, Javier de Juan, and the insular director of Dependency of the Consell de Mallorca and vice president of the Observatori de Persones Majors de Mallorca (Observatory of Senior Citizens of Mallorca), Regina Moll, the problems they have in their daily lives and the possible solutions, which they have been discussing and analysing in the meetings they have held.
Eight topics have been put on the table for the debate: respect and social inclusion; transport; housing; outdoor spaces and buildings; social participation; work and citizen participation; communication and information, and social and health services. But, in addition, a novel topic has been put on the table with respect to the two previous groups: how elderly people live in a tourist resort and the different problems they encounter, both in high and low season. For instance, they point out the difficulties they have to drive, park or use public transport in the summer season, against the low season in which they suffer a greater solitude and a certain degree of isolation, since many of them remain without neighbours.
With today's session, 3 editions of the programme 'Donar veu a les persones majors' have already been carried out, a project result of the participation of the Town Hall in the Observatori de Persones Majors de Mallorca. The purpose of this project is to establish an information system to know and analyse the reality and the psychosocial and economic needs of older people, to reorient and formulate proposals for improvement in the different administrations and entities that offer care and support to this group of people. The sessions have already been held with the elderly people of Son Ferrer, and with the group of Portals Nous, Bendinat and Costa d'en Blanes.
At the reading of the conclusions have been, in addition, the councillor for Senior Citizens of Calvià, Mayte Albertí; the deputy mayor of Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés; the general director of Social Development and Equity, Ana Pérez; the insular director of Dependency, Regina Moll; the head of the IMAS dependency service, Maria Ángeles Fernández Valiente; and the Town Hall's Social Welfare technician, Cristina Gamundí.
