INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ

THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ MAINTAINS BOTTLE PARTY AND ALCOHOL CONTROLS TO FIGHT AGAINST THE BOOZE LEISURE IN MAGALUF DURING THE LOW SEASON

Some weekends several violent episodes have taken place between young residents who go partying to the area of Sa Porrassa road

The Local Police of Calvià maintains its efforts to dissuade and avoid the consumption of alcohol on public roads, specifically on Sa Porrassa road in Magaluf. It is an area with a few bars open in the low season and frequented mainly by young people from the island, many minors, during the months of lower tourist influx. Only in this area, some winter months night shift agents have filed more than one hundred complaints for the practice of botellón (bottle parties), a sanctionable practice according to the civic ordinance that the Calvià Town Hall approved at the end of last year. In addition, the traffic division of the Local Police also carries out periodic alcohol checks amongst the drivers who approach the place.

It is an area with leisure venues that close at 4 a.m., where both inside and outside, alcohol is consumed in large quantities. The bottle party practice is concentrated between Avenida de Ses Palmeres and Joaquín Sorolla St. The main clients are residents in Palma attracted by commercial music and entertainment, especially on Saturday nights and after the exam period. There are also adult foreigners who live in Calvià all year round.

During the past weekend, agents of the Local Police of Calvià have had to intervene at 4:30 am for various street fights and skirmishes amongst young people. To this we must add that, an hour later, four individuals caused another brawl nearby in s'Olivera St. in revenge for the previous fight. Fortunately, the aftermath of the attacks has been mild.
