INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ
THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ WILL CONTROL PARKED NON-HIRED RENT-A-CAR VEHICLES
The consistory has collected numerous complaints from neighbours because many parking spaces are occupied by rental cars without contract
The Local Police of Calvià has carried out a campaign addressed to the car rental companies in Peguera to inform them on the prohibition to park non-hired vehicles in the streets, areas of heavy traffic or in municipal car parks. From now on, the agents will begin to denounce those rent a car violating the Municipal Circulation Ordinance of 14/02/2013.
Each rental car parked on the road or in the municipal car parks must display in an easily visible place the contract number and the duration thereof, the vehicle's registration number together with the name, address and telephone number of the contracting company. Otherwise, the agents of the Local Police of Calvià will proceed to denounce the rent-a-car company, since it is understood that they are not hired.
Amongst the roads with more parking problems in Calvià are those with access to the main tourist areas, as well as the first sea line and adjacent streets in the middle and high season. Magaluf residents are the ones who complain the most about the lack of parking places on busy roads and public parking, specifically in the streets Notario Alemany, Pedro Vaquer, Las Palmeras and Lope de Vega, as there are many rental cars parked without hiring.
All rent a car companies denounced for violating regulations face penalties ranging from 1,000 € to 10,000 €, depending on the number of rental vehicles parked, if the company is a repeat offender in the breach of the Circulation Ordinance, or if it performs maintenance tasks of their vehicles on public roads.
