INFORMATIVE NOTE FROM THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ
THE LOCAL POLICE OF CALVIÀ BEGINS AN INFORMATION CAMPAIGN ON LIMITS TO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES PUBLICITY, SALE AND CONSUMPTION
Agents of the Local Police of Calvià started today an information campaign to remind people of the current regulations on sale, consumption, and advertising of alcoholic beverages with a brochure that has been published in Spanish and English. The deputy mayor for security, Andreu Serra, and the councilor for commerce, Paquita Muñoz, accompanied the agents on a tour around businesses and hotels in Magaluf. In statements to the media, the political leaders have stressed that special attention will be given to the areas of Ramon de Montcada in Santa Ponça, Palmanova and Magaluf, where the campaign has started. This initiative was presented on 23rd March at the Calvià Tourism Forum and has as its main objective to combat drunkenness leisure.
The brochures refer to the municipal regulations for the promotion of coexistence in Calvià and the Tourism Law. Some examples of possible sanctions for breach of these rules are:
- Allow or not prevent customers from leaving the physical area of establishments carrying any type of drinks: from 200 to 600 €
- Spread advertising messages by any means in the establishments and activities or in relation to them, which have among their purposes facilitate or promote the consumption of alcoholic beverages ("open bar", "free bar", "happy hour", "2x1","3x1", or other similar messages): from 600 to 1,500 €
- Sell, supply, allow or facilitate the consumption of alcoholic beverages to people under 18: from 1,500 to 3,000 €
- Provide alcoholic beverages to people who are notoriously drunk: from 200 to 600 €
With the slogan "It is also your responsibility", the session wants to remind on the need to work together in compliance with the rules on sale, consumption, advertising and service related to alcoholic beverages. For example, avoiding the practice of the botle parties, offers that promote drunkenness leisure, the sale of alcohol to minors or to people in state of drunkenness. It should be recalled that the Calvià Town Hall also modified the Ordinance of exterior aesthetics to curb promotions of alcoholic beverages and thus reduce drunkenness tourism.
