CIVIL PROTECTION AND EMERGENCIES OF CALVIÀ 2018 DAY
Last Sunday, Civil Protection and Emergencies of Calvià celebrated their Day with the institutional congratulatory and medal-giving event. The medals were handed out by the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra; the head of the Local Police of Calvià, Justino Trenas; and the general director of General Services and Security, José Antonio Fernández. The event was also attended by members of the government team and the municipal corporation, the Regional Government's general director of Emergencies and Interior, Pere Perelló, the lieutenant commander of the main post of the Civil Guard of Calvià, Eduardo Herrero, as well as relatives and friends of Civil Protection members.
The gold medals with blue distinctive to the merit of Civil Protection of Calvià, have been given to José Manuel Alza Rodríguez and Eduardo Adela Paredes, for their constant dedication, work and effort as lifeguards of aquatic activities, attitudes that have contributed to improve the quality of residents and visitors.
The bronze medals with white distinction to the merit of Civil Protection of Calvià have been given to the volunteers Bernardo Vera Rotger and Roberto David Salas for their dedication and professionalism in the prevention, work and self-improvement for more than 5 years in Civil Protection.
The merit plaque of the Civil Protection of Calvià was given to the pre-school and primary educational centres of Son Caliu and the IES Calvià for their work, effort and dedication in the development and maintenance of the scholastic self-protection plan, tasks that have contributed to make the centres safer places for their students.
Also, there have been congratulation words from the Mayor for specific events:
To 14 Civil Protection volunteers for their work and dedication in the service performed on 12th and 13th November 2017 in the Port of Alcudia when a ferry, which was carrying 26 wounded people, had to urgently dock because of a fire in the ships' hold.
To a group of six Civil Protection volunteers for the services performed on 14th November 2017 in the search for a minor who spent two nights lost in the Castell d'Alaró area.
To three members of the Santa Ponça Yacht Club and two members of the Zoea Mallorca diving club, to whom thanked for their great professionalism when rescueing a young man who fell into the sea with serious risk of his physical integrity due to bad weather.
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, congratulated all the distinguished people and made a public acknowledgment of the work carried out by Civil Protection throughout the year. The mayor has made a special mention to the work of the volunteers and the members of this organisation indicating that Calvià is lucky to have neighbours who have decided to dedicate their time to care and protect their fellow citizens, and has verified how the citizenry of Calvià also recognises the activity of Civil Protection.
On his part, the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra, has highlighted the important work and coordination of the Civil Protection team that has its main asset in each and every one of its volunteers.
The operational coordinator of Civil Protection of Calvià, Manuel Girón, has carried out the presentation of the 2017 Report detailing the main results of the activity carried out last year:
A total of 131 preventive services have been carried out, such as the Calvià Challenge, the Marathon, Sa Rúa, the night of San Juan, or the 'Landing' festivities.
There have been 19 emergency actions, such as floods.
17 actions related to interventions in the maritime and environmental field.
There have been 63 equipment and vehicle maintenance actions.
44 training actions have been carried out for the volunteers. In addition, talks have been given in the three institutes of the municipality and seven schools.
It should also be noted, the Surveillance and Rescue service on the beaches of Calvià, which operates from 1/05 to 31/10 and which serves an average of 40,000 daily users. 48 rescuers and two boats with skipper and lifeguard are assigned to this task.
The greatest activity of Civil Protection is carried out on the beaches of Magaluf and Palmanova. In the boat rescue, the greatest activity is carried out on the beach of Torá (Peguera).
The event began with a minute's silence in memory of Feliciano Casas, member of the Civil Protection of Capdepera who recently passed away.
At the end of the event, attendees went outside the police premises where the vehicles and equipment with which Civil Protection works were exhibited.
