CALVIÀ SOLAR WORKSHOP AT THE IES BENDINAT

The students have participated in activities aimed at raising awareness on the need to mitigate CO2 emissions

Nearly 200 students in 3
rd year of ESO (Obligatory Secondary Education) from the Bendinat Institute participated in the "Calvià solar" workshop on the different available energies, both renewable and non-renewable.

The aim was that students, during the theoretical part of the workshop, became aware of the effects that everyday human activities have on the environment and how they can help to mitigate CO2 emissions and not contribute to the climate change.

They also learned about environmental measures on a global scale in this area, such as the Aalborg +10 Charter, the Kyoto Protocol, the Paris Pact (COP 21) and the Pacte de Batles i Batlesses (Mayors and Mayoresses Pact) in which the Calvià Town Hall participates and has as a main objective to apply different initiatives locally.

In the practical part of the workshop, and in the scope of measures to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, different types of solar cookers were explained to the students, who had the opportunity to test them in the schoolyard.

These activities have been carried out through the Calvià Town Hall's Natural and Urban Environment Service.
