REDISTRIBUTION OF PALMIRA (PEGUERA) AND SANTA PONÇA BEACHES' SAND
The works have been done due to the sand recoil on both beaches
Calvià Town Hall has carried out sand-redistribution works on Palmira (Peguera) and Santa Ponça beaches due to the recoil that has been produced due to causes such as waves and wind. The works were carried out in April, after the storms that affected the coast of Calvià.
Both beaches have a complex coastal shape affected by anthropic and environmental factors that have caused, over time, a recoil of the beach due to the sedimentation and deposit process on the upper part of the beach, next to the beach promenade, increasing the volume of sand in the high zone of the beach and modifying remarkably the shape of both beaches. On the Santa Ponça beach, this accumulation was mainly due to the constant action of the wind, while on the Palmira beach the cause was the strong onslaught of the sea in one of the storms.
The section where the sand-redistribution on the Palmira beach has been done is 570 m long and 60 m wide, and a volume of 5,700 m3 of sand has been moved.
On the beach of Santa Ponça, sand movement has been done from the promenade to the seafront. A volume of 7,210 m3 of sand has been moved.
