CLEANUP DAY AT THE CALÓ D'EN MONJO BEACH

The Foundation for the Development and Integration Promotion participates in a cleanup and awareness raising day on the Calvià coast in which 47.6 kg of waste have been collected

The Foundation for the Development and Integration Promotion (FDI), in collaboration with the Natural and Urban Environment Service of Calvià Town Hall, has carried out a cleanup and awareness raising day within the framework of a common action in several provinces of Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Vigo, Valencia, Tenerife, Balearic Islands, Seville and Bilbao, promoted by the FDI, where simultaneously the cleaning of different natural areas has been carried out. In the case of the Balearic Islands, the place selected to carry out the cleaning has been the Caló d'en Monjo, a beach with a virgin estuary, where a torrent flows out.

The objective of this initiative is not only to clean this little cove located in a non-urban area but also to raise awareness on the problems posed by waste and microplastics in the natural environment.

47.6 kilos of waste have been collected in this action, of which 29.6 kg correspond to rejection, 5 kg to glass and 13 kg to plastic. The cleaning has been carried out thanks to the participation of Todo Corazón AXA volunteers and staff of the environment department. Calvià 2000 has also collaborated in the cleanup day with waste transport.

The Calvià Town Hall, through the Natural and Urban Environment Service, has planned several actions where awareness raising on sand cleanings are combined, a way to better understand the operation of the coast and the consequences of not respecting the natural environment.
