CHALLENGE PEGUERA-MALLORCA  ''SOLD OUT'' AGAIN  WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF 1200 TRIATHLETES

The race increases its capacity by 200 places compared with the previous edition

The event  has been in technical ''SOLD OUT'' since the beginning of August

There is a month to go before  Challenge Peguera Mallorca, the international middle distance triathlon that will take place in Peguera next 20th October, and the entries for the race have officially been closed. The organisation had put out for sale 1200 places, 200 more than in the previous edition in which the ''fully booked'' was also achieved, figures that confirm the good acceptance of the event and its consolidation as one of the best sports offers of the end of the season in Europe.

The celebration of Challenge Peguera Mallorca gathers in Calvià a large number of international triathletes who pursue a double goal, close the 2018 triathlon season in a final quality competition and, enjoy a few days of vacation in Mallorca.

The organisation estimates a presence of more than two thousand people, including participants and companions, during the week of the event, so it is expected that the economic impact associated with the event this year will be over two million euros. These predictions allow to classify Challenge Peguera Mallorca as the sport project that most efficiently contributes to the fight against the tourist seasonality in Calvià, especially in the Peguera area, where hotels reach 100% occupancy during the weekend of the event.

80% of international participants

Athletes of 37 different nationalities will take part in the event. 80% of the athletes are foreigners, outstanding Germans (29%) and British (21%) over the rest.

Controlled growth

Since the beginning in 2014 of Challenge Peguera Mallorca, the organisation has worked on the same premise, to offer an international triathlon event of the highest quality that year after year grows responsibly in number of participants, that is, ensuring at all times the same quality standards that have made it successful. The test has passed in the last 3 years from 850 in 2015 to 1200 places in 2018.

The event

Challenge Peguera Mallorca is a middle distance triathlon that begins with a first swimming segment of 1.9 km in the centric Torà Beach (Peguera). Once the swimming section is completed, athletes access the transition, located just 150 metres from the beach, to face the 90 km bicycle section in a demanding technical circuit that runs through some of the most beautiful places in Calvià, such as natural landscapes at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, traditional villages, coast, tourist resorts, etc. To finish, athletes must complete a 21-km run on a four-lap circuit that alternates the Peguera Boulevard with the beach promenade. The Challenge Peguera-Mallorca circuits are characterised not only by their beauty, but also by their speed, variety and control.

A great cast of professionals

The organisation works to respond to the high demand of registrations by professional triathletes and, as in previous years, expects to have the best specialists in middle distance. The great lineup of professionals is guaranteed, not only because of the quality of the event or the cash prizes that are at stake. The fact that Challenge Peguera Mallorca is the penultimate event of the European 'Challenge Family' brand circuit, means that top-level triathletes who are struggling to get the economic bonus offered by the franchise during the year, compete in the event in order to achieve the maximum points to be eligible for the prize. This is the case of Bianca Steurer (AUS), Jaroslav Kovacic (SVK) or Sofie Goos (BEL), amongst others. The current European runner-up in Olympic distance, Fernando Alarza, will also be '
on his marks' for the start of Challenge Peguera Mallorca.

 Wide range of parallel activities

The organisation is committed to incorporating a wide range of parallel activities to the event so that relatives and friends accompanying the athletes can also enjoy their experience in Mallorca at the fullest. This programme includes different proposals related to culture, music, gastronomy, sports, etc.
