CALVIÀ ATTENDS THE WORLD TRAVEL MARKET FOCUSING ON THE PRODUCT DIVERSIFICATION AND SEASON LENGHTHENING

The MICE, sports and senior segments will be promoted with the increase of the attendance at specialised fairs

Calvià has attended the World Travel Market tourism fair in London, focusing on the promotion of actions in the low-middle season, to progress in the lenghthening of the tourist season. Thus, sports tourism will continue to be promoted with outstanding events such as Triatlón Half Challenge Peguera-Mallorca, Galatzó Trail-Mallorca Mountain Marathon, Walking Event-La Primavera, Sol Half Marathon Magaluf, Mallorca Football Tournament or the WTA Mallorca Open tournament whose 2019 edition has been presented at this year's fair. In addition, they will continue promoting training camps and hiking activities, amongst others.

In fact, Calvià will attend fairs specialised in nature and sport tourism such as Destination Nature in Paris; Deustche Wandertag in Detmold (Germany), and NEC The Cycle Show, in Birmingham, in addition to the fairs it has already attended such as TourNatur in Düsseldorf; CMT in Stuttgart, or FREE in Munich.

This year, Calvià will put special emphasis on MICE tourism (Congresses and Conventions), with its presence in the two main fairs of this sector in Europe: IMEX in Frankfurt and IBTM World Barcelona, the MICE Workshop to be held in a hotel establishment of the municipality, and the elaboration of an informative brochure addressed specifically to business tourists, a directory in E-book format of Calvià companies that work in the MICE sector, and a MICE promotional video.

A special effort will also be made in senior tourism with the attendance to other two fairs of this type of tourism in Sweden: Senior Mässan in Malmo and Senior Mässan in Stockholm.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, accompanied by the deputy mayor for Security, Andreu Serra, has met with the head of destinations, sustainability and senior tourism of ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents and Tour Operators), Angie Hills, to whom he has explained these strategic and operational aspects of the Town Hall, and the satisfactory balance of a season at an occupation level and in the progress towards a family tourism in destinations such as Magaluf, which is gaining this tourist segment before the decline of young tourism.

During the fair, the mayor also held a meeting with the mayors of the municipalities that make up the Alliance of 8 Tourist Municipalities (AMT).
