CALVIA AT FITUR

Calvià is, once again, at the FITUR Tourism Fair, in which the mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, yesterday held a series of meetings with the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities (AMT) that had a meeting with the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, to whom they explained the objectives and challenges of the AMT, especially financing aspects for the conversion of mature destinations and the need to increase the State Security Forces in the high season.

Today, in statements to the media, the mayor pointed out that uncertainty about Brexit causes concern in the sector as reservations are slowing down compared to last year. However, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has been confident that both, the strength of the destination and the diversification of the source markets maintain high levels of employment.

On the other hand, he described the announcement of an international summit to be held in Magaluf as extraordinary, since it will be a great opportunity to show the transformation of a destination, the result of a business commitment and the public-private collaboration. In this sense, the mayor of Calvià stressed that, a few years ago, Magaluf was an example of tourism of excesses, now it is set as an example of reconversion.
