LOCAL SAFETY BOARD OF CALVIÀ

This season, the presence of the Civil Guard in the area of Punta Ballena will be reinforced with the move of the SATE to the current Municipal Tourist Information Office in Magaluf

A special inspection Plan for Magaluf to be carried out by the Civil Guard in collaboration with the Local Police of Calvià, will be launched this month

The Local Safety Board of Calvià met this morning to prepare the summer season in the municipality that this year will feature two important novelties, especially in the area of Punta Ballena. The meeting, chaired by the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Government Delegate, Rosario Sánchez, was attended, amongst others, by the Regional Minister for Treasury and Public Administrations, Catalina Cladera; the Deputy Mayor for Security, Andreu Serra; the General Secretary of the Government Delegation, Ramon Morey; the head of the Local Police of Calvià, Justino Trenas, the chief colonel of the Civil Guard Command, Alejandro Hernández Mosquera, and the General Director of Security of the Town Hall, José Antonio Fernández Ballesta.

The first novelty that has been announced after the Local Safety Board meeting is the move of the Foreign Tourist Service (SATE), which is currently located on Avenida de sa Porrassa in Magaluf, to the current Municipal Tourist Information Office (OMIT) which is located in the centre of Magaluf, at the beginning of Punta Ballena street. This action will allow a permanent position for the Civil Guard in the centre of the tourist area, which will mean an improvement as a deterrent action, but also, as assured by Mayor Alfonso Badal, "the effective and preventive action of the Civil Guard that the Town Hall celebrates as an extraordinary news", as it will reinforce the presence of Civil Guard agents that will be added to the Local Police reinforcements in that leisure area.

Thus, the Municipal Tourism Office will be relocated, initially, where the SATE currently is, in the municipal building in sa Porrassa avenue.

The Government Delegate, Rosario Sánchez, has announced a second explicit action for the area, which will intensify the collaboration carried out by the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Calvià. This is the start-up of the special inspection Plan for Magaluf that will begin immediately to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances and regulations. In this regard, she explained that coordinated actions will be carried out that will have a special impact on verifying compliance with labour, fiscal, activities, health and consumption regulations, with a reinforcement of the Special Citizen Security Action Unit of the Civil Guard and with the reinforcement of Labour and Consumption inspectors, to "guarantee the start of the summer season in good conditions and with leisure organised so that Magaluf remains the safe tourist destination it is".

Both, the Mayor and the Government Delegate have highlighted the good work carried out in a coordinated way by the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Calvià that this summer will continue to be reinforced, also, with the intensification of the CECOR (the Coordination Centre of Calvià) that in the previous years has given very good results in joint devices at specific events, such as the Nit de Sant Joan.

Measures intensification to deal with drunkenness tourism

The Mayor of Calvià, on the other hand, has recalled the measures that have been launched to deal with drunkenness tourism and will be fully operational during this season, in addition to sound limiter, open doors, sale of alcohol to minors or drinks outside the premises inspection campaigns that have been made in recent seasons through the Calvià Town Hall's Activities Committee. Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has referred to the agreement with the Association of Maritime Activities to end with the party boats that has already seen the first sanction to a company for breaching the agreement.
