BOOK DAY IN CALVIÀ 2019
The main event takes place today at the Passeig de la Mar in Palmanova
Calvià celebrates Book Day 2019 with a series of activities, several of which are aimed at children, such as workshops, theatre and performances, amongst others. This year marks five centuries of the first round-the-world trip and five decades of the arrival of man on the Moon, so the activities on this occasion are related to these two historical milestones.
The main event takes place today, Saturday 4th May, from 10.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Passeig de la Mar in Palmanova, after it had to be suspended on 20th April due to bad weather. In addition to the usual bookseller stands with editorial novelties and book exchange, there is a portable planetarium with a 5-metre diametre and 2.7-metre high dome in which an astronomer discovers the secrets of the Cosmos in 10-15 minute sessions.
Throughout the day there are woodcutting, litography and stencil workshops in which the workshop organisers use various techniques to develop Moons and Earths with the circumnavigation route map with the use of a press. As a novelty, this year a workshop is held in the afternoon in which a pin for Book's Day can be made. There is also a photo booth to make bookmarks.
