THE 'PLAÇA NOVA' SQUARE IN CALVIÀ BECOMES THE 'PLAÇA DE LES COLLIDORES D'OLIVA (1932)' SQUARE
The 'Plaça Nova' square in Calvià is already the 'Plaça de les Collidores d'Oliva (1932)' square after no allegations have been submitted regarding the Plenary agreement on 28th March 2019.
The name 'Collidores d'Oliva' (olive pickers) is attributed to a historical event occurred in 1932, when seventy women who picked olives in the municipality of Calvià called a strike that lasted a week, after the landowners declared that they preferred to lose all the oil of the season rather than attend to the wage claims of women, who wanted to match their salaries to those men had.
