THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ SPEAKS IN THE EXCELTUR FORUM
Public-private collaboration, the effort of all sectors and the implementation of sustainability and social cohesion measures, key to the progress towards the second conversion of mature areas
Embracing sustainable management and digital transformation of vacation destinations is the title of the panel in which the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, participated, within the framework of the Exceltur Forum, along with the mayors of Benidorm and Torremolinos, Antonio Pérez and José Ortiz, respectively; the general director of Hertz España, Javier Díaz-Laviada, and the managing director of the RIU Group, Juan Trían Riu, moderated by Ginés Martínez, CEO of Jumbo Tours.
In his speech, Rodríguez Badal set the example of what is being carried out in the municipality of Calvià as a step towards improving the quality of the destinations. In this way, he explained the Magaluf paradigm where public-private collaboration is being the key with the important investment that has been made in the hotel industry that will be accompanied by public investments such as the renewal of the seafront. He also insisted on the need for the involvement and effort of each sector of the tourism industry to reduce drunkenness tourism, highlighting the importance of the Decree's recent approval by the Government of the Balearic Islands, which offers a broader action framework to the measures that the Town Hall has been taking in recent years.
The mayor of Calvià pointed out that these measures are necessary to face the second conversion required by mature areas in general and Magaluf in particular, insisting, in addition, that it is essential for the goal's success to accompany these measures with environmental sustainability and social actions.
After his speech at the Exceltur Forum, the mayor of Calvià held a meeting with technical staff of the Tourism Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), to take over after his appointment as chairman of the aforementioned Commission.
