CALVIÀ TOWN HALL OFFERS DIFFERENT SERVICES TO THE HOMELESS PEOPLE OF THE MUNICIPALITY BY COORDINATING SEVERAL MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENTS

The Calvià Town Hall has implemented a series of measures, through coordinated action between Social Services, and the Education, Sports and Local Police departments, to support homeless people in the municipality

This week, since last Wednesday, meals have been distributed to homeless people in the municipality and who agreed to use this service, which is provisional since, in the next few hours, the UME of the Red Cross will take over , which will also carry out health monitoring. Meals are being prepared in the kitchen of the Palmanova nursery, which, together with the Santa Ponça one, also prepares meals for the health personnel of the Municipality's Health Centres.
Likewise, toilets and showers have been opened, to provide hygiene service to these people, in different sports facilities that now remain closed as a result of the Covid-19 health crisis. They can access the nearest centre, at a set time and can use it in the coming weeks.

The Calvià Local Police is in charge of distributing food to the homeless these days. Two patrols collect, at 1pm, the bags with the meals prepared in the kitchen of the municipal nursery and takes it to the twelve homeless people who need food. Homeless people of Calvià are scattered throughout the municipality in tents, abandoned buildings or in cars. The agents give them a bag with food for lunch and dinner, as well as information on the facilities and social support aid that the Town Hall puts at their service. The Calvià Local Police will continue this task until the Red Cross UME is in charge of this service.
Likewise, the agents also carry out the entrusted actions derived from the state of alarm, such as confinement and vehicles control, amongst others.
