CALVIÀ TOWN HALL DELIVERS 14 PLOTS OF THE URBAN GARDENS IN SON BUGADELLES AND SON FERRER

The objective is to expand the number of orchards in the municipality given the applications' increase year after year

The 14 available urban garden plots of Calvià, located in Son Bugadelles and Son Ferrer, have been delivered today. These available plots (7 in Son Bugadelles and 7 in Son Ferrer), 2 have been awarded to long-term unemployed people, 7 to retired people and 5 to active people.

In total, 51 applicants (13 women and 38 men) have submitted to this call, which is 25 more than in the previous call in which 26 people (4 women and 22 men) applied. All those people who have not been able to access one of the plots will become part of a waiting list to be eligible for a plot that may become vacant due to possible resignations or expiration of licences.

The Deputy Mayor for Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, highlighted that, given these data, the Town Hall is planning to expand the number of urban gardens in the municipality. According to Sedano, the forecast is to make new orchards in the Magaluf area given that every year the demand grows and, in addition, given the current situation due to Covid-19, it is intended to favour, with the location of new orchards, food sovereignty and circular economy in the municipality of Calvià, facilitating access to nutritious food produced in a sustainable and ecological way and promoting the right to decide their own food and production system.

Currently, Calvià Town Hall has 50 plots distributed amongst the urban gardens in Son Bugadelles (32) and Son Ferrer (18).
