Calvià is preparing for the 2021 edition of Challenge Peguera Mallorca

CHALLENGEFAMILY and “Fundación Calvià” have extended the contract that unites them for three years for the development of this triathlon event in the municipality

“Fundación Calvià 2004” and CHALLENGEFAMILY have extended the contract that links both entities for the celebration, in Calvià, of the next 3 editions – 2021, 2022 and 2023 of CHALLENGEPEGUERA-MALLORCA , the international middle distance triathlon.
Calvià Town Hall and “Fundación Calvià 2004” are very satisfied with the extension, as it means ensuring three years of holding one of the events with the greatest economic and tourism impact in the mid-low season of the municipality. As the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, points out, the project is an important asset of the strategic line marked out in the municipality to reduce tourist seasonality by means of the offer of products and services based on areas such as sport, landscape, culture and gastronomy. The Mayor has stressed the importance of promoting sports events together with the promotion of our tourist destinations as ideal places for “training camps”, training and practicing sports.
On his behalf, the CEO of CHALLENGEFAMILY, Jort Vlam, expressed his satisfaction with the renewal of the agreement, stating that for the international brand CHALLENGEFAMILY it is a great asset to have a race in Mallorca. Undoubtedly, one of the hallmarks of the franchise is to select the most iconic destinations in the world to host their events, and of course, Mallorca is one of those highlighted places. Jort Vlam also pointed outd the quality of the event held in Peguera, recalling that it was chosen as the best CHALLENGEFAMILY event in the world in 2019.

Common project
CHALLENGEPEGUERA-MALLORCA is an example of a public-private collaboration. The joint work between the Calvià Town Hall, “Fundación Calvià 2004”, the Peguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association and the Spanish Triathlon Federation (Federación Española de Triatlón), which began in 2014 with the first edition of the event, has borne fruit. The event is currently thriving, selling out all registrations year after year and generating an economic impact in the area of more than 3,000,000 euros, as well as moving more than 3,000 people.

About CHALLENGE PEGUERA MALLORCA
It is a different, tough, spectacular medium-distance triathlon, the essence of what it means to compete in Mallorca. The event perfectly reproduces the characteristics of the island: between sea and mountains, coastal routes that alternate traditional villages and tourist areas; typical Mediterranean climate, and challenging, exciting and varied circuits that focus the attention of the participants and that achieve maximum entertainment and the feeling of overcoming an epic challenge.
The race takes place in the 3rd week of October and has an average of over 80% of foreign participants. In 2021, the race will be held on 16th October.
