The XVII Calvià International Chess Festival will take place from October 10 to 18 in the Sala Palmanova, this time with a series of security measures in health matters.
Despite the situation of uncertainty created by Covid-19, the tournament does not interrupt its trajectory, and expects to receive this year around 70 participants from a dozen countries, which is the maximum possible to be able to maintain safety distances.
The main novelty of the event will be the anticovid measures, among which are the mandatory use of a face mask, a temperature control at the entrances to the room, hydroalcoholic gel available for players and a minimum distance of 1.5 meters between boards. Furthermore, only players with a game in progress and the organising team may remain in the game room. On the other hand, QR codes will be generated to provide information on the tournament.
Another novelty for this year is that two of the parallel activities that have been carried out in previous editions, the International Under-16 Team Tournament and the Blitz (fast chess) tournament, will be held online this year via the Lichess platform.
The closing of the event and the awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, 18th October at 3 p.m. Calvià International Chess Festival is an event organized by the Mallorca Isolani Chess Club and which has the support of both Fundación Calvià and the Calvià Town Hall, and is part of the sports activities organised with the aim of to offer products that extend the tourist season.
