8M International Women's Day Programme

Calvià Town Hall commemorates 8 M - International Women's Day with a series of online, radio, natural and cultural activities and with the launch of a campaign to visualise the role of women throughout history.

With the hashtag # FemHistòriafentcamí (We make history by paving the pathway) we want to share the history of some achievements made by women, many of them the result of struggle, through posters distributed throughout the municipality, and that arise from a joint work between the Calvià Town Hall and Bendinat, Calvià and Son Ferrer Obligatory Secondary Education Centres. Thus, milestones will be found such as: Until 1931 women did not have the right to vote in elections, Until 1978 women were not allowed to process official documents without the permission of a man, Until 2004 sexist advertisements were not prohibited by law, Until 2017, the RAE defined the "weaker sex" as women. Until 1980, the pill was illegal as a contraceptive method ... and thus, up to 50 different milestones.

With the collaboration of the schools, International Women's Day 2021 in Calvià programme has also been developed, with the poster and the short story competitions with the theme ''Mujeres que han hecho camino"(Women who have paved the pathway). Biel Naranjo García in Grade 5 at CEIP Jaume I in Palmanova, and Kinjal Wagle in Grade 2 at CEIP Cas Saboners in Magaluf, have been the winners of the short story and poster competition that make up the cover of the programme.

Most of the activities that have been organised for 8M 2021 are carried out online. Thus, initiatives have been programmed to be carried out in municipal networks with proposals such as participation in the production of a commemorative video, a network of recognition messages under the title "Miradas de mujer a mujer que construyen'' (Looks from women to women that build), or the feminist kahoot «¿Qué sabes de igualdad? Jugamos en línea y aprendemos» (What do you know about equality? We play online and learn), amongst others.

Calvià Libraries have also developed a programme of online exhibitions, reading guides, workshops and stories, aimed at all ages, but especially boys and girls.
Throughout the month there will be walking marches in commemoration of Women's Day, making ses Vinyes circular route in the Galatzó public estate.

And two shows have been scheduled at Peguera Auditorium and Sa Societat Theatre in Calvià: Degenérate mucho, by the XL, a show with a lot of humour and live music, and La Roja, a theatre play created and directed by Neus Nadal and performed by Malos Papeles Cultural Association in Esporles.
