CALVIÀ TOWN HALL LAUNCHES A COMMUNITY PROGRAMME OF SOCIO-EDUCATIONAL PREVENTION WITH CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, YOUTH AND THEIR FAMILIES

The objective is to improve the life of the community with the collaboration of the residents of the area and with all the people who work there

Calvià Town Hall starts a community intervention project in three areas of the municipality: Santa Ponça, Peguera and Son Caliu. The project is developed within the framework of the strategic objectives of the Department of Social Development, Childhood and the Elderly and of the "I Local Plan for Children and Adolescents 2018-2021".

The community intervention is an action that is from and for the community, understood as the group of families, entities, associations and professionals related to childhood and adolescence. It revolves around the idea of "teamwork", to generate, from the vision of the people who live in the area, proposals for improvement. More than fifty professionals from the three areas of action are currently working in what is called "motor group" to start the project.

The objective is to improve the life of the territory with the collaboration of the people of the area and with all the people who work there. It also seeks to detect social, educational, family and community needs of the child and youth population, as well as to promote and develop actions that respond to the needs detected.

It is a way of approaching the policies of a territory in order to jointly generate, from the community, proposals to improve the life of this territory. The group of neighbours, entities and associations, working professionals and proximity services (schools, institutes, health centres, civic centres, social services, security forces, etc.) are included.

Community intervention is a transformative methodology based on the ability of a community to define its needs and get involved in projects that will improve its life. The leading role of citizens is the key, going from being a passive and receiving element to an active one. In this way, individual and collective capacities are strengthened, the agents that make up the community increase their capacity for self-organisation and decision-making; specific responses are given to the specific needs of each area; they address difficulties in a comprehensive and non-fragmented manner and ultimately facilitate the democratic strengthening of society.
