CALVIÀ SAYS NO TO SEXIST VIOLENCES

Today the act of Desire, rejection and remembrance of the women murdered took place in Calvià, which was attended by the municipal government team headed by the mayor, as well as representatives of some opposition groups and workers of the Town Hall. Today's event was also attended by the Institut Balear de la Dona manageress, Maria Duran.

In the introduction to the event, the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, recalled that in 2016 the Town Hall made the decision to not observe more minutes of silence, but to carry out this type of events in which to be able to raise the voice "to make our indignation, anger, sadness and helplessness felt." Francés stated that "This Town Hall maintains and will maintain its commitment to continue fighting against sexist violence, from prevention and awareness raising to care for women survivors of sexist violence and their children from any municipal area''.

Calvià Town Hall, through the Community Social Services, attended 99 women in 2020.

The event ended with the reading, by the attendees, of different phrases and the name of the 10 women killed since the last event that took place in Calvià on 9th March 2021.
